Shall I use a Digital Receiver TV?

There is a new fad in town that is set to stay around for a long time now. The digital age has really begun with everywhere becoming digital and analogue being a thing of the past. There are now such things that are known as a digital receiver tv. A digital receiver tv is encoded with MPEG-2, which is very similar to the satellite systems that first arrived with the digital wave.

A digital receiver tv will decode an MPEG-2 signal which then displays the picture onto the screen, this works just as a computer screen does. This will then give the picture a high resolution and will be a lot more stable than analogue could previously manage.

There is currently a digital deadline in the United States which is set at the 17th of February 2009. This deadline is for every household to be converted to digital broadcasting. When this date comes, all houses will have to be able to recieve digital broadcasts by having a digital receiver tv. Analogue at this time will cease to broadcast, so unless you have a digital receiver tv, or some other type of receiver you will not be able to watch any television at all.

This said deadline has been put back many times as both the buyer and the giver have had problems meeting the right criteria for a successful swap to digital from analogue. Therefore the TV stations must be equipped to send the digital signal and the home owner must have the right equipment to receive the digital signal. The home owner could have a digital receiver tv, this would enable them to recieve the correct signal and continue to watch television at their leisure.

Digital television started out as a free service. If you have a digital receiver tv or some kind of digital device and an antenna, then you can still watch lots of different free channels. There a number of different types of digital receivers on the market at the moment and there are sure to be others on the way. There are the digital ready sets that are commonly known as SDTV sets. These particular television sets have an analogue tuner already in the computer. The only foreseeable problem with these television sets, is that they are unable to play the HD settings which is sure to be the new way forward with all television programmes in the future. The other type is what is commonly known as HDTV - ready sets. These television sets are as good as some of the best computer screens and can display high resolution pictures. Some have analogue tuners built in, others do not have the facility.

The last type of set available are the intregrated HDTV television sets. This particular type of set is commonly classed as a digital receiver tv. These televisions have a digital tuner built in which allows the broadcast of DTV signals that are placed within an HDTV screen and display. You have to be careul when buying such things that with the type of media and digital age in the fold, things are changing so rapidly, your television set could soon be useless!
